2019 TRENDS: Natural? Naturally!

CLEAN SHAPES and a minimalist approach, plus GLAMOUROUS COLOUR and a great NATURAL FEEL with solid wood – all of them designed and manufactured sustainably. The 2019 trends are versatile  – we talked to Melanie Kuglitsch from Wiener Wohnsinn about it.

Natural? Naturally!

Nothing is cosier than natural materials: wool and wood have a comfortably warm feel and will certainly – even in a big city – offer a perfect retreat. A nice side-effect: solid wood has a positive impact on the room climate, as the natural material can easily absorb moisture and release it when it is dry. Have a look at the top trends ranging from classic warm oak to anthracite shades in our series of images.

Solid wood can be too overwhelming. It is therefore best to use it measuredly or mixed with other materials. This produces a light-hearted touch, without compromising on the effect of the wood. Glass and metal accents are a perfect companion, whilst lighting accents beautifully underline the natural design and high-quality workmanship.

What is the secret for combining elegance with cosiness?  Walnut – without a doubt, as the natural material makes an elegant statement. Combining it with glass and metal accents delivers an absolutely trendy look. Tip: always have glass cabinets fitted with lighting. Clever use of the appropriate lighting temperature in elegant cabinets displays the most beautiful accessories and mementos to great effect.

Having a chat, doing homework or enjoying dinner with your best friend: round tables are particularly inviting. Choose a solid wood table that will be an investment for life and will match almost any chair and style. The look depends on your selection: a combination with different chairs in a mix of materials has a casual impact, whilst a set of four chairs in the same wood finish with an upholstered seat creates a beautifully balanced look. In order to create an even more natural look, many furniture units in 2019 will be oiled.

Preferably wood! Many want a natural material for their bedroom. However, using too much wood can give a room a slight ”sauna character“. Soothing modern wall colours are a good remedy, so are accessories in materials other than wood. Interspersing the solid wood fronts with lacquered or glass surfaces will also provide a striking touch.

Tip: especially in the bedroom, it is important to ensure that the furniture is tested for harmful substances. Quality seals such as the DGM emissions label or the Blue Angel will help your decision.
