Environmental label „Blue Angel“: the new solid wood collection “hülsta solid“ has been awarded


Cologne, 17th January 2019 – the protection of the environment and the consumer is a top priority for the German furniture manufacturer hülsta. The new solid wood collection “hülsta solid“ has been awarded Germany’s best known and first environmental label worldwide, the “Blue Angel”.

The certificate was officially awarded to the solid oak collection on the exhibition stand at the imm cologne.
“For more than 20 years, hülsta has met the requirements of the environmental label “Blue Angel“ by facing the challenges that come with the award with every new product development. This is exemplary and important“, says Henning Scholtz, Manager of the Environmental Label at the RAL GmbH (awarding office of the Blue Angel). In 1996, hülsta was the first furniture company entitled to label its entire modular unit range including base frames with the Blue Angel.  For a long time, hülsta staff have been involved in further developing the strict criteria for this environmental label, thus making a considerable contribution to the ongoing development of “green standards” in this industry.

The customer awareness for the environment and sustainability is growing.
The protection of the environment and sustainable furniture are in trend. The Blue Angel is therefore an important point of reference for the    purchase of furniture that are low in emissions. The Federal Environment Agency develops the respective criteria for this environmental label. For furniture, the focus is on limiting emissions in order to ensure that wardrobes, tables and beds do not have a negative impact on air quality. Furthermore, for the certification of a product, the Blue Angel looks at the entire life cycle of a product. The Blue Angel also promotes the use of wood from sustainable sources.

For hülsta Marketing Director Birte Farin, the award for the new range reflects the hülsta philosophy: “Lifestyle and stylish design must not be achieved at the expense of the environment. Our motto ’We live quality‘ is therefore also a promise that hülsta furniture lives up to the highest standards in terms of the protection of the environment and the consumer.”

About the Blue Angel
There are currently approximately 12,000 products from 1,600  companies in approx. 115 different product groups that are labelled with the Blue Angel. Only goods and services that are the best for the environment from one product group are awarded the environmental label. Independence and credibility are guaranteed by the Environmental Label Jury, the Federal Environment Agency and the RAL GmbH. Members of the Environmental Label Jury are the BDI, BUND, DGB, HDE, NABU, vzbv, ZDH, Stiftung Warentest, media, churches, sciences, the Association of German Cities and Towns and the Federal States.
